Finished House of Chains in January. Uncharacteristically for Malazan, a good chunk of the book stays with one character and their journey—and that was a welcome change after the usual wide cast. The arc is some of the best character development in this series for me, and up there with the best I’ve read, period.

The follow-on from Chain of Dogs, with Felisin and Tavore and everything closing in, ratchets up dread and anxiety straight through to a heart-wrenching conclusion.

The series just keeps getting better.
